About the Festival

Located in the Sojubang Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace, 'Saenggwabang' was one of the six royal kitchens (Yukcheoso) responsible for the desserts and special dishes of the king and queen. Also known as 'Saengmulbang,' it is now operated as a paid program where visitors can directly experience royal confections and medicinal teas enjoyed by the king, based on records from the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty.2026, Gyeongbokgung Saenggwabang will reinterpret the royal narratives dormant in old books in a modern way, introducing a new 'Storytelling Tea Table' that embodies the kings' lives and philosophies of governance. This program goes beyond merely enjoying flavors, allowing visitors to experience through taste the values of life pursued by two Joseon kings.King Yeongjo's tea table, symbolizing the wisdom of longevity and moderation, embodies the aesthetic of simple yet refined flavors. King Sukjong's tea table, recreating the joy of brilliant banquets, showcases the essence of elegant and splendid royal culture. The moment visitors open the tea box, they will travel back 600 years, having a special experience where the deep philosophy of the palace awakens all five senses.
