About the Festival

*The food information for the festival venue below is based on last year's (2025) festival content, and the content for the 2026 festival is currently being updated.*The Gwangju Chungjang Recollection Festival is Gwangju's largest and representative festival, originating from 'Chungjang-ro' in Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, the best commercial district in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do. This festival holds special significance as 'Korea's first memory-themed festival,' encompassing all generations and social strata through the universal theme of 'recollection.' It creates a space for memory production, where everyone shares cherished memories and people of diverse ages and backgrounds come together to create new ones.In particular, as it unfolds around Geumnam-ro and 5.18 Democracy Square, historically significant spaces in the history of world democracy, it holds historical and cultural value beyond a simple local festival. As a festival held in the sacred ground of democratization, it carries symbolic meaning, demonstrating the citizens' will to overcome past pain and move towards a hopeful future. The Chungjang Festival has been externally recognized for its excellence, selected as a 2024-2025 Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Cultural Tourism Festival, and is currently designated as an Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival of Korea. Furthermore, it achieved the feat of continuous international award wins, receiving the 'Best Parade Award' and being selected as a 'World Festival City' at the 2024 Asia Pinnacle Awards, followed by the 'Best Overall Entertainment Program Award' in 2025. It has a grand ambition to develop into an international festival encompassing the culture and memories of all of Asia, beyond the local region, through future cooperation with the National Asia Culture Center, while elevating Gwangju's status as a cultural hub of Asia and playing a valuable role in providing a platform for communication and harmony through culture.
