About the Festival

*The food information for the festival venue below is based on last year's (2025) festival content, and the 2026 festival content is currently being updated.* The foundation of the Eumseong Pumba Festival lies in the life of the beggar saint, the late Grandfather Choi Gwi-dong. He, who became the origin of the establishment of Kkottongne by Father Oh Woong-jin today, was himself disabled, yet he went around the villages in the Mugeuk-ri area of Geumwang-eup, obtaining food and feeding beggars who couldn't even beg for themselves. For this reason, his life is regarded as that of a saint of love that no one can imitate. Various theories about Pumba have been handed down. Pumba is said to be an onomatopoeia that serves as a rhythm, used in the refrain of Gakseori Taryeong. The Eumseong Pumba Festival combines Pumba, which has become synonymous with traditional itinerant peddlers, with the philanthropic spirit of Grandfather Choi Gwi-dong. Even though our lives in modern society have become affluent, spiritual poverty and inequality still exist. This festival was born with the premise that such a society should experience catharsis through satire and humor and "be healed with love and sharing." Furthermore, the Eumseong Pumba Festival is a spiritual and cultural festival that practices love and sharing.
