*The festival content below is from the previous year (2025), and the content for the 2026 festival is currently being updated.* The Jinju Namgang Lantern Festival originated from the act of floating lanterns on the Namgang River during the Jinju Fortress Battle of the Imjin War, to prevent Japanese forces from crossing the river and to send messages of well-being to families. It is a premium festival that has advanced overseas, having been designated as a representative festival of Korea by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and simultaneously selected as a global fostering festival of Korea for five consecutive years.
