The Donggang Raft Festival is a representative summer cultural tourism festival in Yeongwol, operated as a stay-over festival with water, rafts, and relaxation as its core themes. In the past, rafters from the Yeongwol and Jeongseon areas made a living by transporting timber and daily necessities along the Donggang River, forming a culture of exchange and coexistence while resting at ferries and taverns after passing through rough rapids and long waterways. The Donggang Raft Festival aims to widely promote the historical and cultural value of Yeongwol by modernly inheriting and reinterpreting this traditional raft culture and the lives of the rafters. During the festival, various participatory contents such as traditional raft making and demonstrations, raft experiences, water leisure programs, water play content, performances, and night programs are operated. It is characterized by providing the romance and leisure of summer nights through experiences and water play using the natural environment of the Donggang River during the day, and performances and relaxation programs at night. In addition, through festival operations in which local residents and tourists participate together, it seeks to revitalize the local community and increase the stay time of tourists, establishing itself as a representative cultural tourism festival that preserves and inherits Yeongwol's unique raft culture.
