The Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival is a representative historical and cultural festival of Seoul, held in Gwanak, a city steeped in history, to honor the patriotic spirit and achievements of General Gang Gam-chan, the hero of the Battle of Gwiju. It is a major festival of Gwanak-gu, created and enjoyed by its residents. The festival began in its current form in 2016 by integrating the "Gwanaksan Azalea Festival," a traditional cultural festival held since 1998, and "Nakseongdae Inheonje," a memorial ceremony held since 1988. Against the backdrop of cultural heritage sites imbued with the General's spirit—such as Nakseongdae, where he was born at the spot where the fourth star of the Big Dipper fell; Inheon-dong, named after his posthumous title; and Seowon-dong, where a pavilion he frequented stands—the festival continues his legacy through various modern programs. In the third week of October, "Tomorrow Gang Gam-chan" begins. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2026, the Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival is evolving into a sustainable festival of coexistence that connects generations and revitalizes the region by expanding its content as a representative K-culture Goryeo historical and cultural festival in Seoul.
