Hongcheon Waxy Corn Festival

Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon State, is the center of waxy corn research and distribution, home to the Gangwon State Agricultural Research and Extension Services Corn Research Institute, the nation's only specialized corn research institution. As the origin of seeds accounting for approximately 78% of the national corn seed supply, it provides the foundation for the excellence of Hongcheon waxy corn. Various varieties with enhanced functionality and texture, such as Mibaekchal, Miheukchal, and Heukjeomchal, are continuously improved and developed, ensuring the stable production of high-quality waxy corn. In particular, the large daily temperature range in the Hongcheon region is a natural factor that increases the sugar content and stickiness of the corn, creating the deep flavor and chewy texture unique to Hongcheon waxy corn.
