About the Festival

The Semiwon Lotus Culture Festival is a representative summer garden culture festival held at Semiwon in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Semiwon is a garden of water and flowers surrounded by Paldangho Lake on three sides, featuring traditional Oriental garden styles and approximately 270 species of plants, including aquatic plants. Designated as Gyeonggi-do's first local garden in June 2019, it was created as a space where visitors can experience both natural ecology and garden culture. The Lotus Culture Festival is an event centered on the lotus, Semiwon's representative plant, and operates various exhibitions, performances, and experience programs to coincide with the lotus blooming season. Visitors can appreciate lotuses and aquatic plants throughout the garden and experience the value of garden culture and the beauty of nature through lotus-themed cultural and artistic content, education, and experience programs. The Semiwon area is known as the place where Jeong Yak-yong, a scholar of the late Joseon Dynasty, installed a boat bridge on the Namhangang River, making it a site of historical significance. Additionally, with facilities such as the Lotus Museum, Jangdokdae Fountain, Seahanjeong, and the Boat Bridge, it serves as a complex cultural space where garden culture, history, ecology, and cultural arts can be experienced together.
