Korea National Contemporary Dance Company 〈Seat and Wrinkle: Yeongwol〉

"Seat and Wrinkle" is a mixed-reality performance series that mourns and remembers beings that have disappeared or are disappearing. Song Joo-won understands both human and non-human beings as living entities, taking their loss, extinction, and death as fundamental issues to explore the possibility of a communal experience of mourning and memory with the audience. "Seat" is the space and place where the entanglement of beings occurs. "Wrinkle" is the mode of existence that unfolds and folds, a pattern of memory engraved in time, and a surface that the body touches and reads. Seat and wrinkle call to each other. The seat embraces the wrinkle, and the wrinkle unfolds the seat. The pattern engraved in time by a single seat is the "wrinkle of the seat," and the space where that wrinkle unfolds is the "seat of the wrinkle." The series passes through two axes. The first half centers on the "seat of death" and the "death of the seat," a time for the audience to face wrinkles that have disappeared or are disappearing in time. The second half centers on the "seat of memory" and the "seat of mourning," where the "memory of wrinkles" and the "mourning of wrinkles" occur through the entanglement of audience members. The audience becomes players and performers crossing physical and virtual worlds through augmented reality and virtual reality. The movements and interactions between the audience and virtual beings, and between audience members, weave an entanglement of mourning, stroking the wrinkles of existence and writing new memories.
