About the Festival

The '2026 Coal Mine Culture Festival', marking its first year, is a complex cultural festival held in the Sabuk-eup area of Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon State, to commemorate the opening of the M650 Museum. This festival presents the lives of miners who led Korea's industrialization and the history of coal mines through modern cultural and artistic programs. The main components of the event include a large-scale themed performance based on the narratives of miners and linked programs involving seven cities and counties in the coal industry transition zone. In addition, audience-participatory experience programs where visitors can encounter the history of coal mines will be operated. The festival space is centered around the newly opened M650 Museum, Ppuri Hall, and 650 Street, with various performances and cultural events tailored to the environment of each area. It is an event that provides visitors with cultural content composed of the historical background of the Sabuk region.
